Due to historic discrimination in bank lending practices and a lack of personal intergenerational wealth, these business owner’s barrier to entrepreneurship continues to increase. In addition, due to lack of capital these businesses are typically located where rents are cheaper but where crucial foot-traffic of potential customers is lower. Even more so, the lack of working capital has meant that these businesses can’t market at a higher volume which would bring them more customers and increase word of mouth.
